Can you BELIEVE it's here already? Life goes too fast! Summer is practically over, the weather is turning chilly (here in England anyway - if you're on the other side of the world I'm jealous and wish I could fly over and start the warmer cycle again!) and the year is disappearing. People are mentioning Xmas already! Arggh. Anyway, in a bid to stay positive, focus on the present and all that, I've been thinking of ways to make the most of it and thought I'd share :)
♥ Dig out those New Years Resolutions you made for 2010 and review how you're doing. If you're doing well give yourself a big pat on the back or a treat. You're awesome! If you're failing miserably (me, for like the 4th year running) there are still 4 months to redeem yourself! Make an action plan with a count-down to Dec 31st and get cracking. (September is a perfect time to make positive changes in your routines if you (or your kids) are back to school!)
♥ Write a big list of fun indoor things to do to keep you entertained when it's too wet/cold/windy outside. A lot of people get depressed during this half of the year so prevent it by planning lots of things to look forward to!
♥ Start thinking about Halloween costumes! It's 8 weeks away - plenty of time to come up with something genius. Oh and decorations too! Time to start collecting inspiration.
♥ Give your wardrobe an Autumn/Winter makeover! I like to take everything out and chuck it on the bed then start again, only putting back what I can see myself wearing. Try on outfits, make notes about things you need, organise everything by colour or type, stick inspiration to the inside of the doors (or keep your Look Book on hand!) and make it inspirational - like a mini boutique!
♥ Treat yourself to a bright and cheerful umbrella. Rainy days aren't so dreary when the highstreet is full of cute girls with colourful brollies! Or how about some quirky wellies or a cute raincoat? :)
♥ Start sorting out Xmas gifts. I know you probably don't want to hear that word just yet, I'm sorry! I don't like it either. BUT getting them done now will mostly make holiday stress a thing of the past!
~ Last week we changed up our humungous pot of pennies that we keep every year - all our ones, twos and fives get chucked in there each day - and went toy shopping for all the kids in the family. (This is very unlike us - we're usually the ones dashing around the packed highstreet on Dec 24th searching for the last few pressies and wrapping paper!) It was FUN. There were no stressful crowds, there was space and time to look for bargains, there was no Xmas advertising, tinsel or crappy festive compilation tapes playing... it was heaven. I felt a bit like we were playing a trick on life and getting away with it! We're half-done with the buying now and hoping to finish up in the next couple of weeks. Then we can wrap them up, stash them away and feel awesome about ourselves, haha! :) ~
So start writing your list, coming up with ideas, looking for tutorials if you're making your own and getting started! So worth it.
♥ Check out the stationary sections at the shops - after everyone's back to school or college the prices usually drop to stupidly cheap! Stock up on pens and pencils, folders and cute little stationary sets while you can. I don't know about you but coming home with a rainbow assortment of new felt-tip pens puts a spring in my step! (#easilypleased)
♥ Since you're probably going to be spending lots of time in your home, make it lovely in there! Elsie of abeautifulmess has just changed her blog so that all her home decor projects and photos can be read in one go - I read through them all the other day and got a big burst of happy cosy home inspiration. Have a look! Also, my old article Home Decor For The Poor has lots of cheap/free ideas to try.
♥ Enter my Pretty Up Your Wrists Bracelet Challenge! I extended the deadline to Oct 1st - I really hope some more people join in the fun! I'm working on my bracelets over the next week and will be posting mini tutorials on how I did them, so you guys can copy mine in your own style if you like :)
Hope you like my ideas! Have you got anything good planned?

Great list of ideas! I never thought of writing down ideas you can do when your stuck in the house when it's cold or wet outside, but what a great idea.

I love your list! thanks for the sweet ideas. I like the one of writing a list of rainy day activities. I always need motivation to get out of the house!
